In 2002, Courtney received her BFA in world music from California Institute of the Arts with an emphasis on sitar, studying with numerous masters including Rajeev Tarnanath and Swapan Chaudhuri. To further her interest in North Indian Classsical, Courtney receives extensive training from Partha Chatterjee in both India and the United States. During the winter of 2005, she lived with a Bengali family in Calcutta, India while learning sitar. During the spring of 2007, Courtney performed in a 13 city European tour with Anoushka Shankar. Recently in 2008 and 2009, Courtney has been touring with Ravi Shankar and Anoushka playing tanpura accompaniment throughout the U.S.
